Normandie Express

Roaring back into action

Brittany Ferries' high-speed catamara, Normandie Express roared back into action In March when she started her 2010 season of speedy crossings from Portsmouth to Cherbourg and Caen in Normandy.

This year Brittany Ferries has introduced the craft earlier in the season and is offering more frequent departures than in previous years.

imageThis not ony caters for strong demand from passengers wanting to cross the Channel quickly from Portsmouth, but also compensates for the reduction in sailings between Poole and Cherbourg following the recent withdrawal of the conventional ferry, Barfleur.

Operating from the March 12 to October 30, with crossing times of only 180 minutes to Cherbourg and 225 minutes to Caen, the ship runs up to two return trips a day to Cherbourg and a daily service to Caen every Friday, Saturday and Sunday supplementing the three return crossings a day by conventional cruise-ferry.

But while the short crossing time might draw comparisons with air travel, the experience is far removed - boarding is quick and hassle-free and by taking your own car you can pack as much as you like. Once on board, there’s plenty of room to move around, as well as a bar, shop and cafés all of which offer a taste of France before you get there.

Crossings on the Normandie Express can be combined with sailings on any of Brittany Ferries cruise ferry services to France and Spain as well as their fast ferry service between Poole and Cherbourg.
