Q We are coming with two cars to Portsmouth and will take one on the ferry. Can we leave the other car for free somewhere?
A We don’t know of anywhere safe you can park for free but there is a secure long-term car park. There is a privately-owned car park at the por and there is a minibus service from the long term car park to the terminal.

Q Do you carry unaccompanied children?
A We will not carry passengers under the age of 16 unless and adult of 18 years or over accompanies them.

Q Is there a charge for booking on line?
A No, but there is a £10 charge for booking by telephone.

Q Do DFDS have cabins for disabled?

Q Are there plugs in the cabins?
A Yes. They are European 2 pin plugs so you will need an adaptor. The voltage is 220v AC.

Q Are there any restrictions regarding pregnant women travelling?
A No. There are crew members trained in first aid, but no doctor. Check your insurance.

Q On a city cruise break do we have to leave the ship?
A Yes,so as to collect a new boarding card for your return sailing.

Q Do you need a passport or Visa to travel ?
A All passengers require a valid, current passport to leave the UK.

Q What is company policy on sailing delays and cancellations in the event of rough weather?
A Staff will do all they can to help transfer passengers to other DFDS Seaways sailings or to make other travel arrangements if possible.

Q On a city cruise break, do you have the same cabin there and back?
A Every effort is made to arrange the same cabin on both journeys, but this is not always possible. If you have the same cabin then you can leave your luggage in your cabin (remembering to take your passports with you).

Q Are there tea/coffee making facilities on board?
A No. You can take a travel kettle and you will also need a travel plug.

Q Can you book by cabin number?
A Only if there is a disabled person travelling.

Q Is there car parking at the ports and how much does it cost?
A Harwich - car parking is available a short distance from the passenger check in desk, it is not possible to pre-book but it is a very large car park with plenty of spaces. This car park costs £6 per 24 hours.
Newcastle - car parking is available at the port, it is possible to pre-book a place, telephone 08705 333000, this is a recorded message, simple fill in the details requested and your place will be reserved. This car park costs £6.50 per 24 hours.

Q Is there duty free on board?
A Duty/Tax free shopping is available on the Newcastle - Stavanger - Haugesund - Bergen route and from Copenhagen to Oslo as Norway is not part of the European Union. On our other sailings it is possible to purchase perfume and other goods at tax paid prices. This is often cheaper than the UK onshore prices and is well worth a look while onboard.

Q Can the restaurant be booked before travelling?
A No. You will need to reserve a table for the Blue Riband or Seven Seas restaurant, the cafe does not require a table to be booked. If you are a Commodore passenger your cabin steward will be happy to make a dinner reservation for you.

Q Can pets be taken on a DFDS Seaways sailing?
A Yes, but only on the Newcastle - Amsterdam route.

Q Are towels provided in the cabins?
A Yes.

Q Can credit cards be used on board?
A Yes.

P&O Ferries (Portsmouth)

Q Where is the nearest train station to the Portsmouth port?
A The nearest arew Portsmouth and Southsea. Both buses and taxis are available from there

Q Will I need a passport?
A Yes, you’ll need a full 10-year passport, valid six months beyond the date of return for all trips to and from the continent. This applies to all children not included on a valid 10-year passport. You generally need a visa only if you are travelling outside Europe or are not a British passport holder. You do not need a visa to enter France or Spain if you hold a passport from an EC country, Switzerland, Monaco or Lichtenstein.

Q Will I be able to get help with luggage?
A A trolley service is available on each route for loading luggage not required during the sailing.

Q What is the onboard smoking policy?
A Smoking is not permitted on vehicle decks or in cabins.

Q Can I store my luggage on the Fastcraft during the crossing?
A Yes.

A Dover Priory station. A courtesy bus is provided to the port between 0745 and 1945. Taxis are also available.

Q Can I buy a Day Trip ticket?
A Yes, on all routes to Ireland you can purchase Day Return tickets by foot fares. From Fishguard and Holyhead Day trip by car fares are also available.

Q When do I need to check in?
A Foot and car passengers should check-in a minimum of 30 minutes before departure, 1 hour for Harwich ferries other than HSS.

Q What happens if I miss my sailing?
A Stena Line endeavour to book you onto the next sailing, subject to availability. There may be a change to fare charged.

Q What happens if my sailing is delayed / cancelled?
A We will keep you informed and assist you, but cannot accept liability for any costs or inconvenience caused due to delays caused by bad weather. We recommend you call our ferrycheck line before starting your journey to the port on 08705 755 755 for up to date information.

Q Is there parking at the port?
A Yes. All ports offer parking facilities onsite or nearby. There may be a charge.

Q Do I need a passport?
A Yes, if you are travelling to Holland. Passengers travelling to Northern or Southern Ireland are advised to take a form of identity.

Q Are there any limits on luggage?
A Day Trippers are restricted to one piece of hand luggage. Foot and rail passengers travelling for longer than 24 hours are allowed two pieces of luggage in addition to hand luggage.

Q Can I take my pet?
A There are no restrictions on taking your pets to Ireland. Cats and dogs travel FREE of charge.
