Getting around
The excellent rail system is run by Swedish State Railways. The network is more concentrated in the populated south where services run between the main cities, but routes extend to the forested and sparsely populated lake area of the north.
Sweden’s roads are well-maintained and relatively uncongested but animals crossing the road in remote areas can be a hazard.
Sightseeing
The capital city of Stockholm, with its dozens of museums, lures tourists with its unique mixture of natural beauty, cultural heritage and modern international urban cultur. The second largest city, Göteborg, is a hub for maritime traffic on the North Sea and also has plenty to offer in the way of entertainment and cultural experiences.
Since the opening of the Öresund Bridge, Sweden’s third-largest city, Malmö, has joined with Copenhagen to form an exciting new cross-border metropolitan region.
In the small northern village of Jukkasjärvi, the famous Ice Hotel offers ice beds and drinks in its Absolut Icebar. It is rebuilt every winter after the summer.
