Irish Ferries has adopted the motto "The Low Fares Ferry Company", reflecting the determination to offer their customers the very best in ferry fares value.
Today, with three modern vessels and one fast craft, it has placed itself in a strong position on the Irish Sea, not only to compete with shipping rivals but also to compete with the cheap airlines between Ireland and the UK.

The company operates three routes between Ireland and Europe: Dublin/Holyhead, Rosslare/Pembroke and Rosslare/Cherbourg.
It was founded, originally as Irish Continental Line, in 1973 as a joint venture between Irish Shipping, Fearnley & Eger and Swedish company Lion Ferry A/B, operating between Rosslare and Le Havre (France) with the ferry St Patrick.
It adopted the name Irish Ferries when Irish Shipping went into liquidation in 1984 and ICL was sold off in a management buyout
In 1992, Irish Ferries took over the nationalised British and Irish Steampacket Company, which traded under the name B & I Line and operated ferry services between Dublin and Holyhead as well as Liverpool and Dublin.
Over the last number of years, Irish ferries has invested over €450 million in new fleet and port facilities and now has the most modern fleet in Europe including
- Ulysses, the World’s Largest Car Ferry
- Oscar Wilde
- The Dublin Swift on the Dublin - Holyhead route
- The Isle of Inishmore on the Pembroke - Rosslare route
