NorthLink Ferries' not only operates a lifeline ferry service to Orkney and Shetland but its state-of-the-art ships take visitors on a voyage of discovery to the Northern Isles.

An extensive timetable makes travelling to Orkney and Shetland more convenient than ever before.

There are up to three 90-minute sailings each day from Scrabster (near Thurso) to Stromness in Orkney and nightly sailings (12 hours) from Aberdeen to Lerwick in Shetland - with four of these sailings going via Orkney’s capital, Kirkwall (17 hours 15 minutes).

Its ferries operate 363 days per year providing the lifeline service to the Northern Isles, with islanders, visitors, goods and supplies all travelling by NorthLink Ferries.

The ships are designed with comfort in mind, with well-appointed lounges and bars, while a la carte and self service restaurants offer menus containing a selection of fine Island and local Scottish mainland produce.

There is also on-board retail outlets, entertainment, comfortable cabin accommodation, children’s play areas and modern cinemas showing the latest releases on longer routes.

MV Hamnavoe operates on the Scrabster route, sister ships MV Hjaltland and MV Hrossey on the Aberdeen route, and MS Hildasay and MV Clare are used for freight and livestock to Orkney and Shetland, sailing from Aberdeen.
