Brittany Ferries Portsmouth-Bilbao service to launch on March 27

Brittany Ferries' expansion of services from Portsmouth continues with the forthcoming launch of its twice-weekly service to the Spanish city of Bilbao using its luxury cruise-ferry, Cap Finistère.

The new route, filling the gap left by the withdrawal of P&O Ferries, commences on March 27, with crossings taking 24 hours on Fridays and 32 hours on Sundays, allowing for a stop off in Roscoff to change crews and load supplies.

The twice weekly Portsmouth-Santander and weekly Plymouth-Santander services means there will be a total of five crossings a week between the UK and Spain - four from Portsmouth and one from Plymouth.

Mike Bevens, Group Commercial Passenger Director, said: “Our services between Portsmouth and Spain have performed extremely well so we are building on this achievement by adding Bilbao to give our customers even greater choice. Bilbao is perfectly situated for getting to South West France as well as the Spanish Costas.”

“We know from CAA statistics that airline passenger numbers to France and Spain have fallen and we attribute this to a general disillusionment with no frills airlines. At the same time, the real benefits of ferry travel, especially on longer routes, such as space to relax, comfort, entertainment, cuisine and, above all value, are being more widely appreciated.

“This new route marks an important step in the steady progress of Brittany Ferries, as we expand when others are reducing services.”

Cap Finistere’s onboard facilities include a sun deck, heated outdoor swimming pool, two movie lounges and several bars and food outlets.
