Brittany Ferries serves up the spirit of Christmas present - with cruise breaks from just £119

Fancy some Christmas magic on the high seas this year? Well Brittany Ferries’ flagship cruise-ferry, Pont-Aven, is offering a brace of festive cruises, starting from just £119 per person, sailing to the lovely locations of Antwerp and Rouen.

Christmas in magical Antwerp

Brittany Ferries’ Christmas cruise sets sail from Portsmouth on Christmas Eve bound for the Flemish capital. Following departure, an evening of entertainment awaits, with the promise of a restful night’s sleep to follow on Pont-Aven.

Pont Aven will be moored in Antwerp adjacent to the famous Christmas market

On Christmas morning, you’ll have plenty of time to open presents before sitting down for an optional five-course Christmas lunch, prepared by French chefs. At around 2pm the ship will dock in the heart of Antwerp, adjacent to the famous Christmas market. Open all day on 25 and 26 December, the market presents you with the perfect opportunity for a stroll around the stalls to walk off their hearty lunch.

The market is just five minutes to the Grote Markt too, famous for shops, restaurants and imposing Renaissance buildings. A little further, you’ll the Cathedral of Our Lady with its striking gothic steeple rising 123 metres and hosting a series of paintings by Rubens. Meanwhile, down by the river, the medieval fairy tale fortress of Het Steen stands guard to protect this remarkable city.

Boxing Day presents a day of leisure to explore the city, with the option of taking an excursion to canal- and cobble- lined Bruges. Pont-Aven is then due to depart that evening at 9.00 pm. She will arrive back in Portsmouth at around 2pm on 27 December, following another night of stylish entertainment – and a restful night’s sleep on board.

The three-night Antwerp cruise costs from just £119, including cabin.

Ring in 2016 twice, en route from Rouen

On 29 December, the Pont-Aven sets sail from Portsmouth for a three-night new year cruise to Rouen. The city, stretching alongside the Seine, is Normandy’s cultural, historic, gastronomic and vibrant capital.

Monet’s canvases of the cathedral have made it the best-loved building in town, but many other glories stand out, including fine museums and the church dedicated to tragic visitor Joan of Arc. Prices for this cruise start from £149 per person.

For those who like a little partying to complement their appreciation of painting, Pont-Aven promises a great programme of entertainment, as well as piano bar, restaurants and boutique shops.

Stunning views of riverside towns and villages, as well as the incredible Pont de Normandie, await guests as Pont-Aven approaches Rouen. After arriving on 30 December, guests have 24 hours to sample the city’s extraordinary cultural delights. As an option, Brittany Ferries offers an excursion to beautiful Honfleur by coach, or you can simply stay on board, relax and prepare for the festivities ahead.

A five-course gala dinner is an option for the Hogmanay cruise home, where fancy dress or black tie are encouraged. And because Pont-Aven is a French ship, there’s the unique opportunity to ring in New Year twice, once at midnight French time, and then an hour later at midnight British time.

And you’ll l have plenty of time to sleep into 2016. Arrival back into Portsmouth is scheduled for around 2pm on New Year’s Day.
