Children learn how to sail with Isle of Man Steam Packet Ferries

School children have been learning how to travel by sea with the help of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.

The 50 children, aged four and five from Ballaquayle School, Douglas, spent a morning at the Sea Terminal and were shown how to make a booking for the ferry, as specially created reservations were made for their “cruise”.

Once the children checked in, they all received boarding cards and went through the security area, before being given a tour of Manannan.

Reception teacher Vicky Clucas said: “The children have been learning about travel and journeys so it was fantastic to give them first-hand experience of the stages involved in making a journey by boat. The children and staff had a wonderful time with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and I would like to thank the Company for a very educational day. The children were all very impressed and said the staff were friendly and professional.”

The children in the class enjoyed learning about the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and how to travel by ferry.

Josh Kewley said: “I loved everything, especially when we put the life vest on. It was exciting!”
And Amelia Lee said: “I loved going up to the Bridge. I got to sit in the Captain’s chair!”

Steam Packet chief executive Mark Woodward said: “I’m delighted we were able to help the children understand the stages involved in making a journey by ferry. Our staff and crew enjoyed showing them around and answering all their questions. It’s great.”

Anyone planning to take a ferry to the Isle of Man with the Steam Packet Company have the choice of sailing from Liverpool, Heysham, Belfast or Dublin.
