Fjord Line to run three ferries on its busiest EU route in summer 2012

Fjord Line will have two cruise ferries sailing year-round on the route between Kristiansand and Hirtshals in 2012.

In addition, high speed catamaran HSC Fjord Cat will sail the same route during the summer.

The route between Kristiansand and Hirtshals is the busiest ferry route between Norway and the EU.

“During the high season we will be able to transport an average of about 5,500 passengers on three daily departures from both ports,” says CEO Ingvald Fardal.

Fjord Line is increasing their capacity in expectation of a growth in traffic, from both Norway and Denmark.

It will be taking delivery of the first of two new cruise ferries in March next year. Until the second ship is commissioned in November, this ship will join MS Bergensfjord in providing daily departures between western Norway and Hirtshals and between Kristiansand and Hirtshals.

Travellers next year will also be able to take the Fjord Line Express during the period from March 30 to September 9. The catamaran will make two round trips daily during Easter and from 16 May to the end of the extended summer season.

“HSC Fjord Cat makes the crossing in two hours and 15 minutes, making it the fastest sea transport option between Norway and Denmark. Those who choose a cruise ferry will have a travel time of three hours and 30 minutes,” says Fardal.

The capacity for transporting vehicles will increase significantly.

Fjord Line Express can carry 676 passengers and 220 vehicles. The new cruise ferries will take about 1,500 passengers and 600 vehicles. On MS Bergensfjord there is room for around 850 passengers and 350 vehicles.
