Go as you please around Ireland with Irish Ferries Holidays from £383

With Ryanair charging up to £80 to take a suitcase to Ireland (and bring it back), not to mention car hire rates, it makes more sense than ever to enjoy the freedom of the open road in your own car, says Irish Ferries Holidays.

The company is highlighting its ‘Go As You Please’ self-drive touring holidays this summer, staying in some of Ireland’s best B&Bs and experiencing a real ‘failte’ – or Irish welcome.

A package of return ferry crossings from Holyhead to Dublin, or Pembroke to Rosslare, for a car and two passengers – as much luggage as you like – and including seven nights’ bed and breakfast costs £766, or £383 per person.

There are hundreds of carefully-vetted farmhouses and town and country homes to choose from.  Don’t be surprised to be offered tea and scones on arrival.  Add home-cooked Irish breakfasts and recommendations as to which pub has the liveliest music and you’ve got all the ingredients of an authentic Irish holiday.

One example of the B&Bs available is Dan O’Hara’s Farmhouse in beautiful Clifden, Co Galway which offers tastefully-decorated ensuite rooms, home baking, beautiful views and Connemara ponies to pat.

In August, Irish Ferries recommends booking at least the first nights’ accommodation in advance but after that, a morning phone call to secure that evening’s room is usually sufficient.
