P&O Ferries boosts Dover- Calais service as SeaFrance remains at standstill
P&O Ferries has beeferd up its capacity on its Dover - Calais service as SeaFrance struggles to get up and running again after being put into liquidation on Wednesday.
SeaFrance is not expected to resume sailing until the weekend after a commercial court ordered the company to reject proposed takeover bids.
SeaFrance MD Robin Wilkins told This is Kent yesterday that there appeared little chance of the company resuming sailings before the weekend, and that sailings were “indefintely suspended”.
“Discussions are ongoingd. The administrators are running the company now and telling us what to do, we are under their control,” he added.
P&O has introduced more capacity to its Dover – Calais service in light of the disruption to SeaFrance services on the route.
The European Seaway has joined the company’s Dover fleet to boost freight capacity. The ship is a dedicated freight ferry that can carry 120 heavy goods vehicles.
P&O Ferries now has six ferries sailing between Dover and Calais which between them can make up to 30 return crossings a day.
