Red Funnel turns to movies to boost Adventure Island campaign

Red Funnel has produced a series of short films designed to amplify its "Escape to Adventure Island" summer campaign.

The campaign aims to position the Isle of Wight as an adventure playground for families with teenage kids and thrill-seeking adults, particularly those seeking activity based day-trips or short-breaks.

Charlie Lower, a Brighton based vlogger, film student and classic MINI enthusiast, is showcasing some of the activities on the Isle of Wight which appeal young adults.

Titled Mini IOW Adventures, the first two eipsodes are available now at www.miniiowadventures.co.uk. The final two films will be released later this month.

Detailed itineraries to accompany each film are available to download and to make it easy for would-be adventurers, they include details of the activity and accommodation providers who are featured in the films.


Red Funnel is also releasing the BIG Isle of Wight Adventure, a lifestyle film featuring six mainland based friends in their 20’s. The film was shot over three days in June and follows the friends arriving on the Island and enjoying a wealth of activities including swimming, sailing, surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, paragliding, beach yoga and mountain biking.

A trailer for the film is available at www.bigiowadventure.co.uk and information is available for visitors to plan their own big adventure.

As a further incentive for visitors to escape to the Isle of Wight this summer, Red Funnel has launched a competition on social media to win a holiday for the best adventure video. There are also four return ferry trips to win for the best adventure photos.

To enter, visitors need to post their video or photo to either Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, Pinterest, Google +, YouTube or Periscope using the hashtag #myiowadventure. The closing date is 30 September and shortlisted films and videos can be seen at www.myiowadventure.co.uk

Jonathan Green of Red Funnel said: “Famous for its beautiful and varied landscape and its award-winning attractions and events, the Isle of Wight is perhaps less well known as an adventurer’s playground. The purpose of the new films is to change that perception and show the breadth of fun activities that are available to teenagers and thrill seeking adults.”

Red Funnel offers Isle of Wight day trips by car from Southampton starting from £44 for up to seven people. Regular crossings run between Southampton and East Cowes taking 55 minutes.
