SeaFrance loses battle for survival
SeaFrance has been forced into liquidation ... but will continue to operate until January 28 while a buyer is sought.
The commercial court in Paris today ruled that state-owned cross-Channel ferry operator SeaFrance should be put into liquidation, rejecting two offers - one from DFDS Seaways and LD Lines - to acquire the company.
The court said SeaFrance, which went into administration in June last year, would continue to operate its ferry services between France and the UK until January 28 and that new bids to take it over would be accepted until December 12.
French shipping company Louis Dreyfus Armateurs and DFDS had made a €5 million offer to take over the ailing company and merge it with their Channel ferry lines.
SeaFrance management had attempted to buy out the company with backing from its owner, state-owned rail firm SNCF, for just €1 but the European Commission rejected the proposal.
