On Saturdays, an additional midday service will run for passengers wanting to both experience the submarine as well as the island as a fun weekend activity.

The submarine has been commissioned from the British Navy, as an out-of-service ship. It has been in dry dock for the past three months, to refurbish it so that it is suitable for all Wightlink passengers, including a café and comfortable seats on board.

Viewpoints at either end of the submarine will be available for guests to explore the amazing sealife found in the Island’s waters.

Mark Persad, head of marketing at Wightlink Ferries, said: “We have been eagerly awaiting the moment when we could announce this very exciting development. Wightlink is the first ferry company to offer submarine services for passengers, providing not only a quick and easy way of travel to and from the Island, but also the unusual experience of being so far below water in a Navy submarine.”

Wightlink Ferries carry over 4.8 million passengers every year, making it one of the UK’s largest domestic ferry operators. More information can be found at www.wightlink.co.uk

Wightlink Ferries advises customers with claustrophobia not to travel on the submarine.
